Bob Reynolds was a half-brother of my paternal grandfather, Thomas Floyd Campbell. Dovie Akers was an aunt of my paternal grandmother, Mary Elva West. My grandparents always said they first met at the wedding of Bob and Dovie.

English.

1910 at Knopf Road in Caroline County, Virginia along with Esther Evelyn
Campbell, Pearl Lennon Campbell, Thomas Floyd "Floyd" Campbell, and
Alfred Rixey Reynolds. He was 14, his occupation was Farm Laborer and he worked
on the family farm.
Bob registered for the World War I draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Hot Springs, Bath
County, Virginia.

He was a barber in Hot Springs, Bath County, Virginia on 5 Jun 1917. He worked
for James Murray.
Bob was described as medium height, medium build, with blue eyes and black hair
on 5 Jun 1917. This information came from his World War I draft registration.
Have not found Robert yet in the 1920 census.
He was a barber in Roanoke, Virginia circa 1930. According to my grandfather,
Bob went to barber college in Richmond, VA, like his older brother Aubry, and
became a barber in Roanoke, VA.
He appeared in the census as the head of the household on 29 Apr 1940 at 818
Brompton Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia along with Dovie M. Akers, Mary
June "June" Reynolds, Taft Dickinson, and Stalling Mather. Bob was 46
years old, married, and had a 4-year high school education. He was born in
Virginia, and in 1935 lived in the same place. He was a barber in a barber
shop, and had $0 income for 52 weeks worked in 1939; but did get other income.

in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

from his World War II "old man's" draft registration.
He appeared in the 1950 census on 4 Apr 1950 at 1418 College Avenue in
Fredericksburg, Virginia. Bob was living by himself, 57 years old, divorced and
born in VA. He had worked 54 hours the week before the census as a barber at a
private barber shop. It was a surprise to find out he was divorced from Dovie.
At the time of the census, they were separated and the divorce was not final.
He died on 25 Apr 1956 at the age of 61.
Bob was buried after 25 Apr 1956 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg,
Virginia.

in VA). They were paying $35/month for rent. Robert was a barber. He was not a
veteran.
They lived at 1418 College Avenue in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1949–1950.
Robert was a barber in the Fredericksburg city directory. Living with him and
his wife, Dovie, was his mother-in-law, Mary H. Akers (widow of Samuel G.
Akers).
Bob and Dovie were separated on 13 Apr 1949 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
They were divorced on 8 Jun 1951 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The absolute
divorce was granted to Dovie for desertion, the case was not contested, and
there was no alimony granted. Dovie was 44 years old and worked as a clerk.
Bob's age was not given, and he worked as a barber. I don't remember my
grandparents, Mary Elva West and Thomas Floyd Campbell, ever telling me that
Bob and Dovie were divorced.

Dovie M. Akers, daughter of Samuel
Green Akers and Mary Henrietta Terry, and younger sister of my
great-grandmother, Mary E. Akers, was born on 20 Oct 1905 in Stuart, Virginia.
She was listed as a member of Samuel Green Akers and Mary Henrietta
"Etta" Terry's household in the census on 22 Apr 1910 at a farm in
Smith River Township, Patrick County, Virginia along with Fannie Edna Akers,
John Dewey Akers, and Velva May Akers. Dovie was 4 years old and born in
Virginia.
She was listed as a member of Samuel Green Akers and Mary Henrietta
"Etta" Terry's household in the census on 6 Feb 1920 at a farm in
Stuart Town, Dan River Township, Patrick County, Virginia along with John Dewey
Akers and Velva May Akers. Dovie was 14 years old, could read and write, and
had attended school since 1 September 1919.
Dovie was also known as Dovie M. Reynolds.
She was listed in the household of Robert L. "Bob" Reynolds in the
census on 29 Apr 1940 at 818 Brompton Street in Fredericksburg, Virginia along
with Mary June "June" Reynolds, Taft Dickinson, and Stalling Mather.
Dovie was 33 years old, married to Bob Reynolds, and had a 2-year college

mother, Mary H. Akers. It was a surprise to find out Dovie and Bob Reynolds
were divorced. At the time of the census, they were separated and the divorce
was not final.
Dovie was living in Fredericksburg, Virginia on 17 Sep 1958. This information
came from her sister, Velva Akers Charles, obituary.
She lived in Radford, Virginia on 28 Oct 1967.
She was a college house mother in Southport, Brunswick County, North Carolina
before 21 Dec 1992.
Dovie lived at 125 Cape Fear Drive in Southport, Brunswick County, North
Carolina until 21 Dec 1992.
She died on 21 Dec 1992 at the age of 87 in Southport, Brunswick County, North
Carolina.
Her obituary appeared on 23 Dec 1992 in the Roanoke Times newspaper in Roanoke,
Virginia. The obituary said: "REYNOLDS, Dovie Akers, 87, of Southport,
N.C., died Monday, December 21, 1992. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, Southport
Baptist Church. Arrangements by Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home."
Dovie's funeral was held on 23 Dec 1992 at Southport Baptist Church in
Southport, Brunswick County, North Carolina.
She was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Reynolds and George Manley Washburn Jr. were married on 14 May 1942 in
Manhattan, New York, New York.
They appeared in the 1950 census on 17 Apr 1950 at Yorkshire Street in Salem,
Roanoke, Virginia. They did not live on a farm or property bigger than 3 acres.
George was head of household, 30 years old, married to June, and born in VA. He
worked 44 hours the week before the census as a salesman for a private
machinery company. His wife, June L., was 26 years old, born in VA, and keeping
house. Their daughter, Bonnie L., lived with them.
George Manley Washburn Jr. was born
on 31 Jan 1920 in Bowling Green, Caroline County, Virginia.
